Significant Online Failure Impacts Numerous Websites and Apps
A large-scale internet outage has disrupted numerous websites and mobile apps worldwide, as users reporting troubles accessing the internet after problems at the web hosting platform.
The impacted platforms include Snapchat, Roblox, Signal, and Duolingo, along with a host of Amazon-owned platforms such as its primary shopping platform and the Ring doorbell device manufacturer.
In the UK, Lloyds bank was disrupted in addition to its affiliates Halifax and the Scottish bank, with additional accounts of problems reaching the HMRC site on that morning. Also in the UK, many Ring users took to online platforms to state their home gadgets were failing.
Just within Britain, reports of issues on specific platforms reached the thousands for every service.
The company stated that the issue originated in the east coast of the US at the cloud division, a unit that provides crucial online infrastructure for many businesses, who lease capacity on Amazon servers. The cloud platform is the most extensive cloud computing service.
Shortly after midnight (PDT) in the US (8 in the morning BST), officials reported “elevated problem frequencies and slowdowns” for the cloud services in a area on the eastern US of the America. The ripple effect appeared to disrupt platforms globally, and the Downdetector site reporting issues with the same sites in various regions.
The outage tracker Thousand Eyes, a service that monitors web disruptions, also reported a rise in outages on that morning, including several cases situated in the state of Virginia, the region of the AWS US-East-1 zone where AWS said the outage began.
