Each time a prominent honors show draws close, one notices a clamor to include fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made for a horror game category. That would be fantastic. The same goes for strategy board titles, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. Yet I need to apologize in advance if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions avoid this approach. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these six categories actually cover many game types, making space possible for most games within them.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.
The Representation Problem
There are dozens outstanding logic titles released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
- A different innovative game received no nominations during that ceremony
- Well-received sorting experience was overlooked that year
- Only a few puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as most engaged experiences worldwide maintaining this status for many years.
The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles for the title of best-selling game of all time; it also contends for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with diverse game types.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators function at the hard edge of video game design, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
